Coffee for your face?

I was given the opportunity to try this facial scrub in exchange for my review and I jumped at the chance!  I love coffee, I’ve been working on my skin, and anything to help reduce wrinkles and acne scars is a-okay in my book!

First of all…when this scrub came the packaging was first class.  The box is beautiful, very well made.  It’s thick, and sturdy, and has a magnetic closure.  Then…when you open it you see this gorgeous little jar!  The gold and brown are so pretty together.  Its obvious that this product is high quality!

So the first thing I did was go to http://www.ewg.org to check out all of the ingredients.  All of the ingredients received a 1 on their scale except for three of them.  A 1 rating means it poses no risk at all to your health.  The three ingredients that weren’t a 1 are:

  1. Propylene Glycol — this ingredient received a 3 which means it provides a moderate risk.  The concerns with this ingredient are that it could be an irritant, could trigger allergy, and that it could have organ toxicity (non-reproductive)
  2. Camellia Sinensis Extract (Green Tea) — this ingredient received a 2 which means it provides a low level risk.  This ingredient has recommended use restrictions.
  3. Vitamin A — this ingredient received a 9 which means it provides a high risk.  The concerns are that it is a known human reproductive toxicant, has use restrictions, can increase skin cancer growth, among other concerns.  You can read more about this ingredient here:  http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ingredient/706889/RETINOL_%28VITAMIN_A%29

Other than the Vitamin A, the other ingredients don’t appear to be that concerning.  So overall I would say that this product isn’t bad at all.  The main concern with Vitamin A would be that you make sure you wear sunscreen!  This scrub is paraben FREE!!, cruelty FREE!!, and it’s also made in the USA!  You have to love that!

When you open the jar, which is absolutely beautiful, you can instantly smell the scent of coffee!  I just love it!  You can see the coffee grounds mixed into the creamy lotion.  It comes with a small spatula to scoop out the scrub.  It only takes a little bit to work too!

I was excited to try it out and I think it worked great!  I can definitely tell a difference in the softness of my skin!  I think it also looks brighter!  I’m looking forward to continuing to use this and see how it will change the fine lines and acne scars on my face as well!
